« on: February 04, 2006, 08:13:10 PM »
I was trying to install Fedore Core 4 but I am not able to be successful neither from a CD nor DVD.I am recieving an error message as "Kernel panic-not syncing: drivers/ide/pci/piix.c:232:spin_lock(drivers/ide/ide c:c03dc66 already locked by drivers/ide/ide-iops c/1235(Not tainted)". I have earlier installed Red hat Linux 9.0 on my system only.My configuration is 1.7 Ghz Pentium 4 Mercury motherboard intel chipset,256MB ram. Please help me in this regard

Try a live CD to see if it is hardware related. You may also want to try another distribution.

I am a Linspire Insider as well!! Lots of people knock it, but they are ones who either are Linux gurus, or know nothing except what they read. For a newbie it makes the transition pretty painless.

I installed a complete version - operating system, all apps and all updates in 11 minutes last night. Compare that with 2 + hours for Windows then installing all the apps + spyware, adware, virus removers, etc.
