installation woes

I am unable to install programs while the anti virus is installed (Panda)(same result with norton). Can any one help?

Does it attempt to scan files whilst installing? Usually, for Norton, a pop-up menu should appear in the lower right corner that asks you for permission to scan a certain file. Give it permission.

If that menu is not there, I suggest you reconfigure Norton.

I have no experience with Panda.
