Changing mouse to make a double click from a single click
    « on: July 05, 2022, 01:29:37 AM »
I've been working with computers for years, and I've always set up my computer mouse for "single click equals double click", but I can't find a simple explanation of how to do this without using "File Explorer".
(It's not that I hate "File Explorer", but every explanation says to use it but when I go to use it,  it does not not have the commands they tell you to use.)

Sounds odd - Which version of Windows are you using?

Can you send a screenshot of the File Explorer > Options > Folder options > General tab.

I opened up Windows File Explorer and find no choices for Options.

Open File Explorer> Click on the "View" tab> You'll find the options button on the right side.

When I open up Windows File Explorer, I click on the "View" tab which displays a menu of 6 items:

               Toolbar
               Status Bar
               Arrange icons by name
               Arrange icons by size
               Arrange icons by Type
               Refresh

The toolbar has a menu of
               Large Icons
               Small Icons
               Display Text Labels

And I don't see the "options" button.

I can actually get into the Device Manager.  (THIS IS GETTING UNBELIEVABLY RIDICUOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

In the Device Manager, the ONLY "mouse" option I can see is "Mice and other pointing devices".
I click on that and I get a new choice - "HID compliant mouse". I click on that and get a 5-tab graphic!!!!!!

I'm assuming that is NOT something that will FINALLY solve my problem.

Do you think that Windows is in serious need of redesigning its instructions??????????  >:(  >:(  >:(

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for, but here is where I go to for Mouse customization:

Type "mouse" in the windows search box, then Enter.

                  Click "Additional mouse options"

                  Click the "Buttons" tab.

I hate to ask this but doesn't that just change the double-click "speed"?
In other words really slow "click speed" would require 5 seconds between each click.
Really fast might require that both clicks occur in one tenth of a second.
But in either case, adjusting that pointer still requires a double click.

Apologies, this is where I have always gone when I need to customize my mouse, and I now see it is not what you are looking for.

                      Following Term_ite's answer:

                      Code: [Select]
Open File Explorer> Click on the "View" tab> You'll find the options button on the right side.
then click on "Change folder and search options" I was able to get to the destination.

If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Okay I thought I'd reply to my previous posting:

Here is what my posting #5 looks like:

                           Toolbar

                           Arrange icons by size
                           Arrange icons by Type
                           Refresh

The toolbar has a menu of
                           Large Icons
                           Small Icons
                           Display Text Labels

And I don't see the "options" button.

I did see your reply #5.  I was hoping someone else who has had this specific problem with Explorer could help, as I am out of ideas.

All I can offer is a link for troubleshooting problems with Explorer.

                            Just wondering....
File Explorer Options normally are / should be in the control panel. If you use the start menu and search for keyword file explorer option, do you get what you see in the following screenshot that's clickable?

Or if you go to control panel and search for the keyword file, do you see File Explorer Options (as shown in below screenshot, second group of listing)?

When I open up Windows File Explorer, I click on the "View" tab which displays a menu of 6 items:

                             Toolbar
                             Status Bar
                             Arrange icons by name
                             Arrange icons by size
                             Arrange icons by Type
                             Refresh

The toolbar has a menu of
                             Large Icons
                             Small Icons
                             Display Text Labels

I do not know what software you are running that you are seeing this in, but it doesn't appear to be File Explorer. Would explain why trying to follow the instructions you found is so hard, but I have no idea what software it could possibly be.

What you've described sounds not of a View "tab" but a View Menu. It most closely matches the contents of said menu in Windows 95, however even that has an Options item in said menu as well as a few other commands.

The toolbar behaviour doesn't match the toolbar behaviour of File/Windows Explorer on any version of Windows.

I feel like a screenshot of what you are looking at could be helpful, if possible. Because what you are describing doesn't make any sense at all. Perhaps you've somehow downloaded a third party "File Explorer" app?

Is what you get by pressing The Windows Key+E different?

I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

                              You asked:
Would explain why trying to follow the instructions you found is so hard?

                              I'm using Windows 10
When I go to use Windows File Explorer, when it gets to the point where it asks for the choice between single click or double click it does NOT have the double click choice!!!!

The double click choice is NOT there.
