Do you see My Computer icon on your screen (desktop)? If yes right click on it and choose Properties. Under General tab see what writes?
    System: .....

Unfortunately 98 has no System Restore tool.
You may try downloading OpenOffice free Office suite. http://www.openoffice.org/

Do a search Start>Find>Folders and Files and enter wordpad.exe in the search box and run.

In Win.98 Wordpad is usually in C:\Windows\Accessories and can be started from there.

      Good luck

T-Chai - sure he may have deleted it but it could also be a simple corruption of the shortcut path.  With the level of knowledge he has displayed it will probably be simpler for him to create a shortcut than download/install if the original program still exists somewhere on his pc.  It may also be possible to guide him thru' the steps required to extract Wordpad from his Win.98 cd.

      Who knows...

        Thanks for feedback...
It's not a dumb question if you don't know the answer.
