IDX extenstion help?
« on: March 05, 2006, 07:26:14 AM »
Using Nero to copy a CD that I made on my computer and not being connected to the Internet, I suddenly found most all of my audio files with an IDX extension that I don't know what to do with. Windows says they may not be safe to play anymore.

I live in Laos as a teacher here, and don't have access to good resources like people in developed countries have. I often use my songs to have my students practicing listening in class, and really would like to have those audio files.

I would be VERY appreciative to anyone with information that could help me.

Thank you,

Chris

Possible IDX extension types:
Corel QuickFinder Information
FAX file
Header information (CMYK image) (Stork format)
ICQ index
Index file (Microsoft Clip Gallery v. 1.x)
Index file Pro/Engineer
Index file, used by many applications
LaTeX index
Microsoft Outlook Express file: mailbox
Relational database index (Microsoft FoxPro)
Symantec Q&A relational database index file
Temporary Internet Mail file AOL

You could simply try renaming a known file to give it it's original extension. If that works, a simple batch or script file can be used to rename them all.
However, I suspect something untoward here and would urge you to carry out the procedures listed here and report back.
