HDD not listed on" My Computer"
« on: March 14, 2006, 08:26:39 PM »
I have a second HD that I have been using for months as SLAVE. Suddenly it disappears on "My Computer" but it is detected on the BIOS. I can not get access to it. I am running Windows XP, but this particular HD is running Windows 98 SE.

what does Disk mgmt say?  Is it listed with a drive letter?  Have you rebooted since it dissappeared?

DEVICE MANAGER says that this device is working properly. I have boot and reboot my computer for many times since the HD disappears.

1. Right-click My Computer and click Manage.
2. In Computer Management, click Disk Management.
3. Follow IT-Guy's instructions.

Jerry:

Are you saying you see two hard drives listed under Disk Drives in Device Manager, but you see only Disk 0 and not Disk 1 in Disk Management?

What are the names of the two disk drives in Device Manager?  Do these match the names in the BIOS?

Is your BIOS set to auto detect?

Did you notice any changes just before the slave drive disappeared from My Computer (for example, did your anti-virus program detect a virus, or did you install a new hardware device or new software)?
