Won't read harddrive
« on: March 18, 2006, 07:27:19 AM »
I recently changed my motherboard, cpu, and ram and I'm trying to reuse my old harddrive but when it tries to boot to windows I get the message that windows didn't start correctly and it reboots. I've tried safe mode but it seems like it reads 0 sectors and then shows some files but nothing happens. Could it be the way my bios is setup

Windows on the old hard drive is expecting to find the old motherboard.  You will have to reinstall Windows so it will add drivers for the new motherboard.

If you're running XP Home on this you'll probably need to re-activate it as well.

Backdated is correct.  In fact, i've had to reactivate Windows XP after installing Service Pack 2 (Billy's boys just don't trust anyone)!
