cannot install OS
« on: August 21, 2004, 03:43:08 PM »
Hi Guys,

I just built a new athlon xp system. I have a seagate 120 GB drive. When i boot up its detects the hard drive and other components properly and I boot up from Windows 2000 prof CD but it gets stuck after the inital OS Setup screen. Its a new hard drive.
Thanks for sharing any of your experiences.:)

Be specific about the make/model of all the equipment.  Also, is this an IDE or SATA drive?  If it's SATA, you need to load the drivers early in the install or it'll hang at the first reboot.

Its an athlon XP 2800 with 333 FSB and 512 MB DDR 3200 ram. Seagate Drive is ultra DMA100 IDE(120 GB) and setup as primary master and BTC DVD RW is set up as secondary master. 1.44 floppy drive and radeon celestica 128 MB video card. I have tried another western digital drive(120 GB) but it gave same issue. It reaches the windows 2000 setup screen and reboots itself.
Thanks

Did you format the new harddrive before installing the operating system on it?

BIOS is recognizing the floppy drive and using the hard drive installation CD I boot up in DOS but there is no format command with it and when try to switch to floppy drive , it says not ready error reading drive B. The floppy drive LED is continuosly on even if there is no disk in it.

Thanks
