Windows No Disk Dialog Box
« on: March 30, 2006, 08:19:40 AM »
Recently an issue has cropped up - I'm running Window XP Pro w/sp2; all of a sudden when ever a mouse action is taken, opening an application, saving a file, etc. a Windows No Disk dialog box appears saying "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert disk into drive". I have put disks in all drives (floppy and CD/DVD) but it has no effect. Virus and spyware programs are running and current.

What would cause this to occur and how can it be stopped?

This a typical symptom of infection by or improper removal of the W32.Netsky.D worm and it's relatives.
What security software are you using?
What files are in your temp folders?
Have any recent software installations failed to complete?
What does the Event Viewer console tell you?
