CD & DVD writer do not write anymore

I had lost my cd & dvd drives earlier.

I have  a Sony computer. The dvd & cd drives were working fine now they can not be found. They don't show up in the explorer.   They have power to them both.  Any suggestions?

I now have the drives back but I can't  write with them.

The drive does not  see blank discs cd or dvd with any program including the explorer

have you tried  a cd cleaner disk..... what writing <burning>software  are you using...you can read by not write on a raw disk is this correct...does this help>http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=324129
