Download MS-DOS
« on: April 03, 2006, 09:57:45 AM »
Hello,

we have just messed up an older type PC that was running some old software
for the use of a downloading system. Now we are in need of MS-DOS to put back
on that computer. Is there anybody that can help me out or can send a copy???
The version that was on this PC was 6.22

Many thanks in advance

I'm not aware you can download MS-DOS or PC-DOS from anywhere. Both are owned by Microsoft and IBM respectively and it's doubtful you could even buy a copy.

This link may provide an alternative DOS

Good luck.  8-)

You can download freedos or drdos. Drdos is not officially supported anymore but there a lot of sites that over help if you need it. It is probably all round better than msdos.

Just-Passing - Welcome to the CH forums.

The link you provided is to the MS-Dos 6.2 Stepup files which update MS-Dos 6.2 to MS-Dos 6.22.  In order to use the Stepup files one must already be running MS-Dos 6.2.

Even though the "Dos Download"  has been discussed many times by some people on this Board,  I still don't know what is possible.

Can we download an older version of Dos?

No, that's an upgrade to DOS 6.0 and 6.2. Think of it as a Service pack is to a windows version; you can't install a service pack without the OS.

What about the suggestion that we might find an older version of the DOS OS on ebay?  Is that possible?  Make DOS the only OS on an older PC?

Sounds like fun.  I bet someone has already done that.

yep. I still have my DOS 6.0 disks :P

I had it set up on my older PC for a while, actually; even had it networking with my XP machines via NET SHARE and NET VIEW and so forth. Pretty amazing that these can still intercommunicate!

The setup for the MS-DOS 6.22 setup includes DOSSHELL, and runs well in DOSBox

And also another tip, I tried it in CMD and in DOSBox that I switch from Text to Graphics and it went to fullscreen. Miss drew the icons and text, this probably requires some tweaking to the video config in DB, and of course CMD isn't fit for
            it in the first place.

Yes, just about every version can be downloaded, but it is in breach of the MS copyright.

              Another tip:
For running MS-DOS applications and Windows Applications use CMD and type in DOSSHELL in the directory where you stored the MS-DOS suppementary ultilies, once you switch over to command prompt you can runn DOS and Win32 apps from there(I myself tested one of my VB.NET console apps and it ran perfectly)
