Hyper terminal help!

Hey guys the nice guys @ Orange UK have gave me my data card unlock code.... woo hooo!!! it only took 6 weeks from request  :-/

Now this is the intresting part...............check out the unlock procedure below!! How the *censored* is the average person meant to know what the *censored* to do ????


Novatel Wireless Modem Unlocking Process


1      Purpose and Scope  

The purpose of this document is to explain Novatel Wireless Modem Unlocking Process.  


2      Modem Unlocking Process overview
Execute the following steps to unlock a PC Data Card whose Network Personalization Lock is active.


[1] Open a HyperTerminal session with the PC Data Card and select the Primary Port COM number that has been assigned to this device.

[2] Ensure you are communicating with the PC Data Card by issuing the command:
 AT    (OK) will be returned

[3] To unlock (disable) the Network Personalization Lock issue the command:
            AT+CLCK=”PN”,0,”unlock code”
     
If successful OK will be returned, otherwise an error response will be displayed.

“unlock code” is specific to each modem and was provided at the time of shipment



Now I'm quite pc savvy guys but im stumped with this - hyper terminal to me was to do with internet! lol, any help or advice much appricated!!




FYI im running Win XP with SP2 :)

    seaniboy......  This card is some sort of wireless device that installs in your computer ?  Did any software come with it ?
    What is the exact model of this device ?   There are a number listed .....so knowing would help.

    hey thanks for the quick reply!

    Its a Orange UK locked Novatel Merlin U530 UTMS/GPRS data card, the software is Orange branded ( and no-where to enter the unlock code ) but the Novatel generic software will not accept the unlock code when it asks for it due to Orange sales demanded the lock code be hardbedded to the data card as a stipulation of thier order to Novatel and the only way to unlock is the way they have told me - but I have never used Hyperterminal since the early days of dial up!!

      seaniboy... ok , let me see what I can find now that we know the model.

      Have you inspected the software carefully ......... I suspect there may be a hyper terminal as part of it ....but let me look .

        your a star DL65 !

        This is what Orange told me, Orange did not even have the unlock code - took six weeks of chasing them to get it from Nova, Orange told me they were not unlockable, I told them thats crap and get my code I fufilled my contract - get code or face a suit ! lol that got the ball rolling... ( albiet slowly ! )

            I had to get the generic sent from Novatel on special request - and were they picky about it!

                The Merlin U530 has been discontinued. More advanced mobile technologies have made this change inevitable. [highlight]As a result the U530 is not available for new [/highlight][highlight]sales[/highlight]. However, existing customers will continue to be supported.

                I hope you got it cheap......LOL
