i just upgraded from a 400 cpu to a 550 cpu. my computer is a dell optiplex gx-1. after 20 seconds of being turned on, it shuts off. when i turn it back on, it says either thermal overload or fan faliure. but the fan is still spinng when it shuts off. any ideas? ???

Your CPU may not be compatible with your Mainboard. Refer to your mainboard guide to check.

Are you too lazy to look this up for yourself?

Dell specs say it is compatible if manufactured after 04/19/1999:  http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ban%5Fgx1/specs.htm

Did you change CPU speed jumper?
