Automatically aims down
« on: April 09, 2006, 05:02:14 PM »
Good day.

I have a problem with aiming in Unreal Tournament '99 GOTY v4.36.
When I start any game the aim automatically auto-aims to the floor. It doesn't let me aim.

I have tried the following with no positive result:

-update to latest (4.36)
-try all different drivers (d3d, openGL, software rendering, 3dfx glide)
-clean cache
-get latest drivers
-configure all possible mouse options

Does this game depend on the registry to work well?
I have just copied the game files/folders into my new drive. I didn't install the game. The reason is I didn't have space on c:\ and used a virtual machine to use c:\.

Thanks for your attention.

This may be the problem. If you can get space, try installing it. Don't you need hard drive space to install a virtual machine? ::)

    Yup you do.

My virtual machine was 15 GB, w2k3 server and is on F:, not C:
    (I have 6 virtual machines on F:)
    My PC partitions:

    C:\ (windows xp pro with SP2) 6GB
    D:\  personal data
F:\ external USB 2.0 harddisk (includes my virtual machines) 149 GB
    Here's a better picture:

SP2 really souped up my 6 GB :(. Already I cleaned out
    %DocumentsAndSettings%\me\temp\ and temporary internet files\.
I have partition manager 8.0 though.
I have very little programs installed in C:\ (windows installation defaults + 1 or 2 custom)
Perhaps I should make my C:\ bigger, but only max. 7 GB.
I think that wouldn't be enough for Unreal, a poor 1 GB extra.
If you have any suggestions on how to make my C:\ a lot bigger than 6 GB?

Or other suggestions about my original problem...

    Thanks for your attention.

May I suggest backing up save games, and installing the game on F, no virtual machine? Looks like you have a TON of free space there. And it wouldn't hurt to have it in Registry either. :)

Problem solved. Copied the game to F:, mimiced the registry settings of the virtual machine (I had installed Unreal there), and rebooted. I think the reboot did it really.

Wait - you didn't reboot after you pseudo-installed the game? That might be it...
