computer won't turn on...

I was using the computer and all of a sudden it shut off. and now it won't come back on. any idea as to how I can get to work again

have you check all the power plugs<fuse blown>...what operating system have you got..does the monitor light come on?was this in a thunder storm?

Were there any smells (burnt plastic/insulation). Are your fans running, PSU (power supply), CPU, case fans, etc.  

P.S. If you have a power strip/ surge suppressor check it, I got bit on that one once.

there was no thunderstorm. I use a surge protector and it still works fine. the monitor still works. there was a plastic burnt smell. I was simply placing a stock trade and the computer shut off.

maybe the (power supply unit or >http://www.fact-index.com/v/va/varistor.html in it )has given up the ghost...
