Spyware prob - I'm not the most clever at this!
    « on: May 05, 2006, 02:11:18 PM »
When the bubble comes up, I click on it and nothing actually happens. It keeps coming up and the same thing keeps occuring

And a new toolbar has also appeared, and I can't remove it, there is also a new button, of something I downloaded to get tid of this spyware stuff.

I've also tried Control Panel with no luck!

Pic http://img309.imageshack.us/img309/6599/spywareprob21lx.png (it's like that due to size constraints! - I couldn's show it all but that last toolbar shouldn't be there!)

      Hey there buddy.
Untill someone who really knows their stuff with spyware gets here i recmend you downlaod this from lavasoft:

      http://www.lavasoft.com/

Click on the 'Ad-Aware personal edition' on the menu, its free and very effective.

Its great at getting rid of spyware.

That bubble is not an original microsoft message, its one palced by spyware so i strongly suggest you dont click it.
      Keep us posted mate.

Hehehehe, oke then. As fed said post a hijack this log, its a small program that goes through your computer and helps to show hijackers and other spyware items etc etc. You can download it from here:
                    http://www.download.com/HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10379544.html

If possible zip the log up and attach it but if tats not possible just copy and paste the findings up, it make take 1 or 2 posts.

                        Ccleaner
(During install, uncheck the Yahoo Toolbar option)
(After install, set Options>Advanced> 'Uncheck the 48 hour box')
                        ANTI SPYWARE
                        Ad-Aware
                        Spybot S&D
                        ANTI VIRUS
AVG Free (After install, set Options to 'scan all files')
                        ANTI TROJAN
                        EWIDO (W2k & XP Only)

                        a-squared (aČ Winall)

Turn off System Restore if applicable. (ME & XP users)

                        Run Ccleaner
                        Run Ad-Aware
                        Run Spybot
                        Run AVG Free
                        Run Ewido and/or a-squared (aČ)
                        Re-start in Safe Mode
                        Re-run AVG Free

                        Re-start in Normal Mode
Turn on System Restore if applicable. (ME & XP users)

...Then come back with a fresh Hijackthis log.
                        PS... Update to SP2.

I've got down to where it says turn off System Restore m and it got me thinking - could I just use System Restore to get the computer back to the state it was nefore all this happened? What would happen, and would it work?

It may likely just reinstall the infections as well.  ;)

Not really because the virus all this rubbish thats on your computer has most proberly copied itself into the files that your computer would use to restore to, so it wouldnt make things any better and most likely just worsen the situation.
