Wireless security
« on: June 22, 2006, 09:24:46 AM »
I want to Buy a wireless transmitter for my office but i am in a large building where many others could use my signal.  Is there a way i can password protect the signal and if so how?  And which wireless provider would be best for my situation?  Thanks

Once you purchase the router, they will have instructions on how to password protect access to the router, MAC Addresses, Encryption, all of that.

Not to big i would say no bigger than 65 by 50 feet.  But would you go with Belkin or Linksys?

Belkin, Netgear, Linksys and D-Link are all big sellers. I would stay away from no-names.

I have used D-Link and Linksys both, personally. I like the Linksys a little better.  ;)

      Yes, Linksys is great.
My aunt and uncle have a Linksys wireless system, and I haven't heard of a single complaint from them.

If you want to protect the data on your computer as well, get a good firewall to prevent hackers from "getting in" to your system.

A good router is an excellent hardware firewall by itself.

I, too, am partial to Linksys. Better setup software and very reliable.

Have you figured out to set the password protection yet?
