How about some info on the machine and what preceeded this? Can you boot to Safe Mode and do a System Restore to a time before this happened?

It does the same in safe mode.  I think i know how to fix it. the problem is with the kernel32.dll . i need to reinstall it through dos mode. i have the dll on a floppy. the only thing is i dont know what the correct command is to install it from a floppy in dos mode.

You will have to boot with a Win98 start up disk and then type in:

copy a:\kernel32.dll c:\windows\system

and press enter. Now restart the machine. Does that work?

Please note that the above must be typed in EXACTLY as shown, spaces and all.

If you use a boot disk the CDROM may be identified as e:, so experiment with that. It should tell you as it starts to boot. If you copy from a CD it will have the attributes set as a read only file, but this might not be a bad thing.
