Hijack This log
« on: July 01, 2006, 08:52:44 PM »
So anyways, over the last two years or so, my system gets slower and slower.
Could someone tell me exactly what the HijackThis log means?
Are there things I should remove?
(I have removed from the log everything that I know I can trust)

One thing in particular that I have notices is this:
A lot of browser objects (for free online virus scanners from McAfee, Symantec, and TrendMicro, and updaters for SC4) are there, and I don't even use those anymore. Is it harmful to remove these?

Log is here:
http://www.jessez.mbhosting.com/HijackThislog.txt
Thanks for any help

(the animation below explains a lot)

You have 50 running processes, do you need them all? (I have 18)
McAfee will slow you down a lot compared to AVG.
You can safely remove all the 016 entries.
    ALCXMNTR.EXE is sortaspyware.

I know McAfee slows computers down, (and I have noticed), but it comes free with my ISP and I know that I can rely on it more than AVG as it does have more advanced scanning, and it more secure. AVG Free does have some limitations.

And what do you mean "ALCXMNTR.EXE is sortaspyware"? What kind of spyware?

Do I delete stuff in Hijack This by selecting the checkboxes and clicking "Fix selected issues"? And do I need to back something up first?

Apache runs processes, so if you are not even using it, shut it off or uninstall it. You are eating up your CPU'S cycles with unnecessary programs. 50 processes is too many.

Apache does not start when my computer starts. I have disabled it. (using MSCONFIG)

        ALCXMNTR.EXE ---->Sortaspyware---->Slyware.
Realtek AC97 Audio - Event Monitor. "Slyware" file used surreptitiously monitor one's actions. It is not a sinister one, like remote control programs, but it is being used by Realtek to gather data about customers.

When I want to remove something, do I select them and then click "Fix"?
        Does that remove them?
I am going to remove most 016 objects, and remove RealTech will be dissabled using MSCONFIG (one of my favorite programs)

I use the advanced tools in Spybot to remove them, it gives good descriptions of what things are when you click on the entry.

Jolly Rodger has to do with antivirus, like Avast and AVG.
(it has to do with the virus definitions, its not pirated)

          Truth!
Jolly Rodger is part of update software for Avast Antivirus. I cant say I really know the same thing about AVG, but its possible.

(hey, anyone up for a game of Truth or Dare?)
(yeah, a game of truth or dare. But would Mr. Stewarts be honest? )
