Ebay Stuff
« on: July 02, 2006, 01:57:50 PM »
So, anyways, I was browsing for laptops on ebay, again.
I ran across something that looked like a great deal! 3GHz laptop, 512MB or RAM, 60GB hard drive, and a lot more for only 20 pounds! (aprox $38 US)
Here I am, Zylstra555, all excited, and then I keep reading.
It turns out that it was one of those jack @$$^& that just sells "links" with a "$1 digital mail fee".
It was a link to get instructions on how to own a laptop like this for only 20 pounds.

The regular price of this laptop is 950 pounds.

How does this kind of auction work? Would I REALLY get my laptop for 20 pounds?
And a good laptop?

It just reminds me of those internet ads. And it really pissed my off that this seller got me all excited and all.

Again, if it sounds too good to be true.....

You've got to ask why would some advertise to sell something worth a LOT of money for so LITTLE money?

1) scam
2) scam
3) scam

Pick one.  ;)

What if they have a return policy?
What if they have a 94% satisfaction rate?
(I pick option 3)
They violate the Ebay police if it doesnt work, right? (there not the ones selling if for 20 pounds, another place is selling it for 20 pounds. The person who put this link up for bid just sends you the link)

Why don't you post the link on eBay so we can examine it further. I promise not to take your prize.

I looked at the eBay link, and I loved the quote:

"I am the Soul CopyRight Owner of this Listing"

This just screams SCAM! Please don't waste your money.

The part I cant stand is its in the laptops section, INTERFEARING with my search results.

I am now looking on Ebay for one of them mini laptop things, basically a palm pilot, with an almost full sized keyboard. (one of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEC-MobilePro-790-Pocket-PC-Laptop-16-PDA-780_W0QQitemZ190003508157QQihZ009QQcategoryZ38331QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem )

Can anyone recommend the right manufacturer for one of these?
(want one for school. )
(THOSE STUPID NEIGHBORS AND THERE FIREWORKS! WHY CANT THEY WAIT UNTIL THE FOURTH?!)

GX1_Man deleted his post. Now its gone, into the recycle bin. What I wanted to quote is in the below post
None of these have the year they were built.

How about this one:

That is a 5 year old (at least) model that is currently not even being produced and probably minimal (if any) support. Something more mainstream and current might be better.

Those DSTN screens were not very pleasant to look at.  ;)

How do these things hold data (like music, applications, photos, etc...)
For example, when I see this: Installed Memory (RAM) (MB):
12 MB  what do I think?

I would like one because they are small. I am going to look for one with wireless.

No. Unless I really know Dead_Reckon but don't know it.
In fact, I believe that Dead_Reckon just started visiting this part of the forum (the Others section, where I belong)
I didn't recognize the username Dead_Reckon. So I assume Dead_Reckon hangs out in the MS-DOS/Microsoft Windows area.

WOW thats smart idea. all the guy has done is been to a site like www.freeipods.com then copied thelink put it in a "Ebook" that hes written probably and is selling it for £20!

    £1 Digital delivery service LOL!

    ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Ebay is full of crap like this. Another common one is a Ebook about police auctions. When i searched limewire for this Ebook and the rest of the Internet it didn't exist. So its probably some crap he wrote himself.

Ebay needs to get a grip like.

I was looking at MP3 players years ago. and you could get a good !gig one for £15 buy it now....JACKPOT.... not quite the delivery charge was £50  so all in all its the same price.

People like this get people who are inexperienced or who dont read the listing properly. i have seen people bidding on these Ebooks and some how i doubt if they know what they are doing.

And should it be eBay's job to protect idiots from themselves? Those listings clearly state what it is and is not. If not fraudulent, then let the buyer beware and  move on.
