What do you have now?  What types of slots (AGP, PCI, PCI Express) does your computer have?  What are other specs (processor, RAM, etc.)?  Give some idea what you mainly use your computer for.  Why do you want to upgrade?

Thank You for responding -- I play games on line and my pc keeps hesitating -- I've cleaned all temps - cookies - added spybot -- checked for driver upgrades -- my PC is a Pentiom 4 - 2 ghz - 512 ram - a dell - I've also chec ked my incoming and outgoing speeds - both are excellant -- the video card I have came with the PC 2/3 years ago -- it is a dell 1905FP (analog)  NVIDEA GeForce 2 MX -- I think I can be walked thru installing a new one - I just don't know how to find out the one I need

I'm sure in that PC you'd Have an AGP port mostlikley an 8x (You need to check before you buy any thing)

Nvidia have only one Top End card that will still Run on an AGP slot and its the Geforce 7800-AGP (Of Course this is the most Expensive one you can get)

Now if you don't want to spend Stupid money. you should look at getting a Card from last Years Range's

    An ATI Raedon 9000 - 9900
    Or a Nvidia Gefroce 6000 - 6900

There is a pretty wide Price Range to chose from, but since the Cards are getting a big dated now , it would be best to get one for about 200-300 Dollars. you could by a cheaper one , its all down to preference.

You could do with more Ram as well

That's a lot of $$$$ for a video card for me -- is it  possible that ram would fix my problem ?

ok maybe that is a bit Expensive, you could get one for about 100 that will be OK , but you need a new Vidcard , i had a geforce 2MX it was a great card but Ive had 4 since then and i don't upgrade very often.

If i were you id look at getting a ATI 9200 or a Nvidia 6200
Make sure its AGP and get the Best you can Afford

But Video Cards are Expensive , when i got the Geforce 2 it Was Selling for 256 Pounds (Thats Saying some thing Pounds don't Exist any more)

What is the computer or motherboard make/model? You need to find out what kind of slots are on the motherboard for video. You could also look in there but the specific motherboard will be needed to know all appropriate details.

If it is a Dell, post the service tag, found on the case and in the BIOS screen (F2 at boot up). The model number will be there also. The Service tag is th emost helpful.

You have an 8x AGP slot beside those PCI, so you  can use a 4x or 8x card. DOn't expect spectacular results, but it should be usable IF the power supply can handle it. It's only 250 watts so a lot of what has been suggested here is excessive. If you want a gaming machine get one. If you don't need to run the latest games this will be fine.

If you are not a gamer, why do you want a different card? WHat are you specifically not able to do? When you start using those high wattage cards you will get into trouble. That was my point. "If it ain't broke...."

Well that would be waaaay down the list on things to improve this. Have a look here:

      http://www.computerhope.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1149948530

Let's make sure that machine is squeaky clean.

Also check for running processes in Task Manager (Ctl+Alt+Del) and see what is going on there. How much total RAM in the machine?

How much free hard drive space out of how much total? It should be 15% for Windows to work corerectly.

Try CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com) and then defrag the drive. What happens now?

;D you r wonderful ----  ty ty -- I think ccleaner.com did it -- i also scan disked and defraged -- I have 70% free on my hard drive and no extras running when I do cntr-alt-del -- I don't know if I should go to any of the other free downloads - I'll wait and see if this is really the fix. ty for not dismissing me cause I'm not a PC wiz --

First it is considered rude to hiojack someone else's thread. In the future, please start a new topic and post all the information possible about the machine and problem. Thanks.  ;)

Download and run Everest to identify the actual video card in your machine and provide computer or motherboard make/model.

Do you have virus scanners by eTrust and Mcafee both loaded?

Here  is some interesting  reading about Weathterbug FYI:

        http://www.pchell.com/support/weatherbug.shtml

I'll try to get Fed to take a look at this.  ;)

OK -- now we're gettin somewhere --  CPU usage stays 0 -- 7 -- 10 % --  then spikes to 100% --   when wscript.exe shows up - this happens about once a minute --   also committ charge is 296M/1248M  --  when CPU use goes to 100% commit Charge goes to   305M/1248M   There are 36 processes going -- @ the bottom System Idle Process is 97-99  ---  does this mean something -- I got rid of all Mcafee and Weatherbug stuff -- ty ty

It was telling you how bad wscript.exe is.

"If a process named wscript.exe is running on your computer, you may have been infected with a strain of the Vbswg.Aq worm.

wscript.exe is considered to be a security risk, not only because antivirus programs flag Vbswg.Aq Worm as a virus, but also because a number of users have complained about its performance."

          Sound familiar?

:)  Good Morning  ---  Well the good news is that I probably have a PC that's the cleanest it's ever been -- The bad news is - it still has a hang-up issue .   I did follow the directions from the "audit my PC  page -- It came back negative --  there is no more Symantic - Weatherbug - Mcafee - in my system. I do have wscript - I don't know if I have to have that to make the system run - I assume so -- Guess that's about it -- It's not a huge issue - I can live with it -- ty for all you're help -- I don't really want to get a new video card if I'll still have the same problem after it's installed.

No you don't need a New Video Card , you need to get rid of wscript.

Sorry if i mislead you , i just answered the Question you asked, its seams apparent that GX1_Man figured there was more too it.

As for Tucker42, i believe everyone could understand the post you flagged , if you wanted to say some thing that might have seemed more negative to me rater than such a good self insult, it it was me , i would have called me stupid for telling some one to spend such a high Price, but thats the Least i would tell any one to spend
