Unremovable Program
« on: July 07, 2006, 12:15:43 PM »
I have a Program (Civilization III) and I can't seem to be able to remove it from the add and remove programs list. Each time I click on Change/Remove it just makes the page flicker.  I also tried this on the computer's Admin and the account that the program was added on.  I also tried putting the disk in and going to the game in the all programs list and went to uninstall ( It did this some time ago but it said that it couldn't find the uninstall program for the game in the computer)  and picked setup from the disk list.  I think this info will help alot,  the computer's Admin deleted the game from the my computor list and erased it from the computer.  I tried reininstalling it on most of the accounts but all it does is remove the stuff and stops,  it doesn't really remove anything.  I also had installed a patch on it but I don't think that that will help now since the stuff is gone.  I have Windows XP.

It sounds like the program has been manually deleted by admin but you are stuck with the entry in Add/Remove Programs.
If this is the case then use ccleaner>tools>delete entry.
You should then run ccleaner to scan for issues.

"CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less that a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware! :) "

Then you double clicked on the desktop shortcut & nothing happened???
          That's weird.
Try opening it from the start menu.

            I don't think so, I'd uninstall it & try a fresh downlaod & install.
I've never heard of anyone having a problem like this.
Judging by your last question I assume you are not a complete novice so I expect you have downloaded and installed preograms before now?

I should have worded it better but what I meant to say is that the Computer Admin for this Computer is a novice and that he believes that if I go into My Computer the hole computer will go into complete chaos without me even deleting anything

By your 1st post I assumed you had access to the admin account, that's what you said.

I'm not an admin so that is why I needed to know if it only works with Admin Rights

Your user account may be severely restricted, you need to talk to the computer admin.

It's on topic, you just can't see the on topic part :D But usually if you need to get rid of something, and add/remove programs worn work, you can always just got the the program files, and delete it's folder, shortcuts, ect.
