Ok, I wasn't sure what to download, so I downloaded the sound driver. It didnt look like mine but I fugured it was wirth a try, however, once I had downloaded it I tried to run it, I get a load of questionmarks where it looks like there should be text, and what looks like the install directory is listed as

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

What should I do next? I'm at a loss....

That sound driver is the one listed for that motherboard model.

Check to see where you are downloading it to. Why not just make a new directory call Stuff and put it there?

ok, I extracted it to a new directory, and ran the setup file. An error message pops up saying
"Software not supported by this OS"
I downloaded the 9x/ME/2000/xp file, not the NT one.

Ive been searching for hours, I heard of the i810_audio driver, but can't find anywhere to download it. Intel  support site does not have a generic AC '97 audio driver, I have to know the chipset of my board, how do I find out?

ok, Belarc Adviso gives the specific motherboard;

Board: Micro-Star Inc. MS-6178 1.0Bus Clock: 66 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 62710 05/20/99

You already know the board.

Sorry for the late reply, I was away.

After looking closer, I see that intel only supports intel boards, and recommends going to the manufacturers website, which I already have but to no avail.

So, I have tried to directly contact MSI, they offered email address for sales (no) marketing (no) and website enquiries (no, but close enough)

So i have emailed the webmaster in a last ditch attempt to sort this out. This is the last driver I need to get my system completely functional and its taking the longest to find :(

This was the first place I looked. I'm not a member, but downloads are free if you choose to view a series of ads instead. I couldn't find anything for me

    Go here:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=116&kind=1
    Scroll to bottom of page and try that driver (9x/me.....)
    If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.

    Thats the one that I was linked to.

    I cant afford an upgrade of OS, but I was thinking I could get an old sound card that has support for windows 98?

    he problem there would be finding one and a driver.

    Recieved an email today after further correspondance with MSI;

    Dear Matthew,

    I believe you need at least Windows 98SE. We have some old driver CDs
    around.

    Please send a SAE to:

    Please include a copy of this email with your letter. And we will post one
    to you.

    Progress, I suppose :)
