Okay. I'll have to do it tomorrow, 'cause we're in a planned shutdown of all non-essential stuff. . .this part of the world is in a heatwave and power companies are asking everyone to conserve power.

Forgot to mention...for the first scan after dloading and installing and updating you might want to re-boot and run it in SafeMode..

it happened again. . .this time to Ccleaner--but only the desktop shortcut.  how to keep computer from doing this by itself?????

Setup an Admin account on that machine...password protect it and tell your buddies to get their own machine.
Sounds harsh but i don't share any of my machines except with students i tutor. And they have limited accounts.

i would. unfortunately, we have to share the PC (it's the only one here attached to a printer)--and we're interns.  but thanks.  PS how do i retarget a shortcut if it happens again?

Also, the account is the admin account.

To re-create a shortcut find the .exe file for the program in Windows Explorer...right click it and select "Create Shortcut".
Then drag and drop the shortcut to the desktop.
