Questions on Servers and Server Sides "I think??"
« on: August 13, 2006, 10:20:22 PM »
I am not sure what they're called I no the Extensions are JSP, PHP, and ASP...
Now I talked to Gateway *Makers of my Computer*
I Can't Find what the scoop on this is and I don't want to talk to Gateway again...
Questions:
1.  All Server sides *php, asp, jsp* need a real server although I DON'T WANT TO BUY ONE!  I GOT 3 COMPUTERS!  Can I set up some place in my computer or hardrive that is deticated to this stuff.

2.  If Above isn't possible what should I do?  *If you haven't already answered*

3.  I am making a family website I DO NOT NEED A LOT OF SPACE but i do need SECURITY.  Does any of them have like an encyption database thing to make it safer?

4.  If I need to download stuff to do this i need the links *I prefer the ones i don't have to pay for*

5.  What is the cheapest way into this?

The answer to all of your questions is Linux.  Get ready for a steep learning curve, but I promise that it will be free and very rewarding.  :)

You know where Google is?  I suggest using it to find Ubuntu.  That's a good starting point.  :)
