Mircosoft Visual C++ Runtime error

When ever I open a window I get an error that says

Mircosoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime error!

Program:C\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\EXPLORER.EXE

This application has requested the runtime to termate in an unusaul way. Please contact the applications support team for more infomation.

I have IBM thinkpad 240 running Windows 98SE
Anyone know whats wrong?

Yes that is what I get. It does matter what program I open I still get the error
