Computer freezes up
« on: August 23, 2006, 08:05:22 AM »
When I turn on my computer, it starts up normally, works for a few minutes, then freezes allowing me to do nothing. I can close any open windows. I can double click an icon on the desktop, an hourglass comes up, but nothing happens. The taskbar completely freezes. If I wait for around 5-10 minutes then it starts working properly again, that is if I havent turned it off and called it lots of rude names. I have anti-virus software (F-scure) which is fully updated and fuctional. When i run a scan it reports no virus found. Does anyone have an idea *censored* is going on? please help.

Spyware protection? Any other unusual behavior? How long has this been going on?

I do have spyware protection (spybot SD), which reports no problems. The problem has been happening upon every startup for around 6 weeks.

i turned off system restore and started windows in safe mode like you said. The spybot still found no problems, but the virus protection would not run in safe mode. what is ewido? i do not know.

i downloaded ewido, updated and scanned, it found 1 piece of spyware that the other one did not, but the problem is still present. incidentally, the problem does not occur in safe mode (i don't know if that means anything).

anyway, it is 11pm in england, and thus past my bedtime. work in the morning and all that shite. thanks very much for your help unlovedwarrior. i'll be back tomorrow. peace
