I have been wondering what the heck is running on my task manager and why? What can I "end process" to quicken the computer up a bit ? I stumbled across this today in a magazine- Smart Computing Sept 2006 "Exploring Your SYSTEM"
I will condense the article the best I can.
Windows NT-based systems have a tool called the Windows Task Manager: much of the info is inscrutable to the average user.
Enter Process Library Quick Access Infobar! This free utility illuminates the function of processes running on your PC.  Once you install this tool, you'll see next to each process a little blue circle with an "I" in it. Click it,and you'll open a web site telling you what the process is and does, what company or person authored it, and whether it's safe to stop running it ! If the name can correspond with more than one executable, you'll find out, as well. This tool will show you which resources are "slowing" you down. It will help you identify spyware & other unwanted programs. This is a "freebie" don't expect much support. This tool will not cause any changes to your PC so you should not run into any problems.

As many as 20 to 30 processes may be running invisibly, silently in the background on your PC. Some hog system resources drastically slowing down your computer; others are a threat to security and privacy; others may be harmless.

I don't like the way computers are described like living things to people... it sounds like description of bacteria for the masses... Some are dangerous, others may be harmless.... Things like these make people believe computers are some kind of living thing, with mysterious ways and certain things will upset them.... and so on

It's one thing to ask for advice here to knowledgeable people like yourself but;
sometimes it is much easier with tools like this to accomplish speeding up the system without having to wait for a response. I am installing this once I get home tonight. I have anywhere from 40-44 processes running at once. I have defender 15-n-1 installed and want to make sure i shut down the right thing. It's hard to understand  whats going on to the average Joe and something like this is great without having to go into the Services Tab and screw something up*.
