Need program that will convert WMV and AVI to MPEG

I'm looking for a program that I can use to convert WMV and AVI video files to MPEG files, preferably one that I can use to convert several files at a time, maybe even as many as 40 or 50.  I found a program that supposedly will do that (http://www.download.com/101-AVI-MPEG-WMV-Converter/3000-2140_4-10554033.html?tag=lst-0-7), but according to the reviews the video and the audio don't sync at all when converted.
Can anyone name a program that has the features I described that I could download?  Freeware or a program with no limits/restrictions/logo watermarks would be preferable, but if there's no program like that, one with a price of under $20 would be acceptable.
