Laptop Hardrive Issues
« on: September 21, 2006, 03:19:51 AM »
My room mate has a sony vaio laptop, when we boot it up it says operation system not found, I then booted up with his recovery cd's and it says hardrive cannot be found, I then looked in the bios on startup and once again it does not show a harddrive, it was working fine now dead.

He said last time he used it a windows screen popped up running through some file verification thing and then shut off and this started.

Any help is appreciated, its only a few years old.

THanks

Perhaps that HDD has gotten unseated slightly due to moving...check the Sony site and or your manual to see the proper procedures for removing/replacing that HDD and re-seat it.

Can you hear the hdd spin up?  You may have to put your ear next to where the drive lives to hear it.

If the BIOS doesn't see it the OS surely won't.

Check what  patio suggests as well.
