Can't exit safe mode in ME
« on: September 21, 2006, 11:50:10 AM »
Hi... every time I start the computer it starts in safe mode with just the words 'safe mode' in each corner. How do I get out of this? I have to turn off the computer manually, and when it turns back on it goes into safe mode again. It doesn't even seem like any buttons work in safe mode so I can't do anything. Thanks very much for any help....

Can you do a system restore from System Tools?

While your stuck in safemode try this...Open My Computer and right clik the C: drive...select Properties and clik on the tools tab...the first choice of tools is error checking...clik there and let it run til it completes.

Re-boot and see what happens or try ale's advice to do a system restore.

Press F8 before Windows loads and select a normal boot, see if that corrects the problem.

Unfortunately it freezes right when I try to select the normal, safe, or other mode... and I don't know how to correct anything because i can't get into the computer without it freezing.
    Thanks!

You should scan for Viruses and Spyware in safe mode and remove any programs that might be causing your system to crash whilst loading Windows.

      "...it starts in safe mode..."

"...it freezes right when I try to select the normal, safe, or other mode..."

I'm a little confused  :-?  Which is it?

okay, i'll clarify... if I don't press F8 when i'm starting up, it automatically goes to safe mode... it says safe mode in the corners but really it's not safe mode because that's all there is and i can't do anything in it.... it's frozen. but if i press F8 i can try to start in normal mode as well as safe mode, but when it is almost working it freezes. so basically i can't do anything because it's frozen, no matter what i do.

Do you have any important data to back up first?

And then format and reinstall. ;)
