5.1 channel died / Creative P5800 Inspire
« on: October 15, 2006, 06:38:57 AM »
I now seem to have a 4.1 surround set because one of my speaker channels died.

The speakerset has been acting up ever since I got, it will from time to time loose power until I turn it off and on again. Now one of the speaker channels seems to have died.

I doubt there's still warranty on it because it was a sales-bin sort of item.
Any ideas? Should I open up the subwoofer and look inside?

I think I'll buy Logitech next time, I was hoping Creative speakers would go hand in hand with my Creative soundcard. Sjeesh, was I in for a dissapointment..

On a side note; the computer now uses the only working rear channel (Whichever speaker I plug in there) and pretends it's both left and right.

Hm, I don't recall having seen any settings for that, but perhaps I'm missing something?

The culprit could be the sound card itself.
Re-seat it and re-install the drivers.

Doubtful, the problem is with the subwoofer. It loses power and apparantly it is also prone to lose channels every now and then.

The channel just started working again! I really like it when problems solve themself.  8-)

What's your opinion on speaker sets, anyway?

I have about $6,500.00 invested in my sound system so i don't use the computer much for music.

If i was into gaming then the priorities might be different.

I understand you think the sound card is not the problem but, to be absolutely sure, can you find another computer to test your speakers on?

The problem is so sporadic that I'd have to spent several days behind another computer for it to occur again, I think I'll simply buy a wireless speaker set should the problem become more erratic. At least I'll have an excuse to replace a brand new speaker set.  :P

So far I've encountered the following programs, I suspect that the list will grow:

  • Speaker set loses power
  • A spectacular 'Woosj' occasionally pops up and runs through the surround set.
  • A channel died and came back on
