How big are these pictures?

Most pictures coming from digital cameras are not 256KB or smaller. They usually range in the 1024KB, however that also depends on your settings.

What type of website is this?  Do you really want photo files exceeding 256KB in your site?  Why not resize those photos for web?  If you really need to use photo files exceeding 256KB, you might try using FTP to upload instead of using FrontPage's publish function.

I wonder if this might have something to do with your web hosting service rather than FrontPage.  Can you ask them about this?

Thanks.. its my Personal Web.. which contains a page for photo's.. in fact.. after I upload the pics to my web, I turn them into thumbnails.. then just open them up a little.. as thumbnails are sometimes small .. ??

Do you use fee-based hosting for this or is it free web space provided by your ISP?

That didn't quite answer my question.

Were you ignoring me?

There you go, they need to be smaller than 256KB.

I suggest that you use Irfanview to resize them and degrade their quality a bit.

They do?  How did you determine that?

The attachment added.. It said "The image must be smaller than 256Kb"

So.. It's obvious that when you try to add a +300Kb image it won't accept it..

Well, I don't agree that we can conclude from this that FrontPage won't upload files larger than 256KB.  I have FrontPage 2000 but, unfortunately, I don't have a way of testing this right now.  But, I find nothing in Help about a file size limit for pictures inserted into a page.  And, I find it quite strange that a photo larger than 256KB can be inserted into FrontPage and previewed in FrontPage and, at the same, FrontPage has a limit of 256KB on photo file size that it will upload.  Sorry, but I need further proof to believe that.

So, I think there are other issues, perhaps involving the server end.

I think it is your hosting service that does not allow you to upload files larger than 256KB, I never said it was Frontpage's fault.

I d/loaded Irfanview as suggested, then brought in an image and decreased the pixel value.. then published that image.. and it worked.. it shows ok in I.E... which suggests to me that my host only allows so much.. still waiting to hear from them. thanks to you all.

It seems so, but I believe most hosting services do not have such a limit.  I just uploaded a 643KB photo to a web server, via FTP.

Anyway, downsizing those photo files for viewing on the web can be a good thing.  If you have any viewers connecting via a dialup connection, those huge photo files take a long time to load into their browser.

What he forget to mention was that this is a free hosting service.

You shouldn't make pictures too big because there are still people cough, Fed, cough that use Dial-up. To them, downloading a picture the size of 256KB seems like an eternity.

Many of the hosting services have fairly low cost starter plans.  Here's one I use: http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/web-hosting-plans.html.  The Starter plan is $4/mo.
