Undo Internet Formatting ?
« on: October 19, 2006, 07:53:39 PM »
I want to copy & paste info (poetry, recipes, articles) from the internet into word document.  Does anyone out there know how to un-do all the formatting?  I've tried fiddling around with word, but have failed miserably.  Thanks for suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestion.  Alas, I tried that over the summer & all the formatting gets copied, even into Notepad - a friend suggested putting it into a lesser text program like notepad and then into word.   No luck.

No, Windows Notepad definitely does not retain formatting.  It's a simple text editor and retains no formatting of text copied from other sources.  If the formatting gets copied over to whatever "Notepad" you're using, then you're not using Microsoft Windows Notepad.

Actually, Notepad does maintain formatting, it just isn't very good at it.

Can you show me an example of where you copied text from a website and Notepad retains the formatting?

Copy the source code and paste it into notepad, then save it as a .html page.

So that when you open it with a browser you'll have an exact copy with the proper layout and everything. Brilliant, huh?

That has nothing to do with this topic.  Go back and read the initial post.  He just wants to copy text from a web page over to Word without the formatting from the web page.

Look, the simple fact is that using Notepad to save a file as an HTML file has nothing with this topic.  He's not copying any HTML code from a web page.  He's just copying text and wants to lose the formatting.

Instead of being so darn defensive, why not explain how using Notepad to save a file as an HTML file is related to this topic, since you seem to think it is related?
