.tiff files are usually QUITE large, especially compared to the same graphic saved as a .jpg

I started off by scanning and saving the document as jpeg file.  It was when that test turned out to be haywire that I started this post.  Since then I tried .tiff file but they didn't arrive at all.  The only difference at the receiving end was when I sent jpeg at 150 dpi, so it must be something top do with the resolution when scanned.

I think I'm going to have to get my local pc expert to give me some tuition at home.

Thanks again for the interest and advice.

Reduce your DPI to around 100.

I'm surprised maybe no one suggested doing a copy when you use the scanner, then it will be the same size as original.  Otherwise in jpg format you could use a photo editing program to edit the size down to 800x600 or smaller which is the resolution most monitors are set for.
