Help! Display completely purple Windows 98

the display on the monitor is completely purple no icons or bars at all it has a smaller different color window in the middle when I go into safe mode I get the same thing  its an older computer with windows 98   I've tried using a different monitor that works well and I get the same thing I'm able to see the Windows 98 logo window when its booting but then it immediately turns purple    
my sister's kids use for playing games only   I think it happened when they were playing a game but no sure - help!!
What other info do you need

Sory I added more info to the initial post instead of replying - my apologies
Here is more info let me know what else to add

Since you have tried 2 monitors and they both did the same thing i would guess it's your graphics card/onboard.
Re-install your video drivers...

can it be done from a command propmt?  that is the only one that I can access from the startup menu. Do you have instructions please thanks

Make sure the Monitor cable is fully plugged in. And that the cable is plugged into the correct monitor slot.

    Can you see a mouse pointer? Is it white or purple? Try reinstalling Windows 98.

    Yes I can see the mouse pointer it is white  
    I don't have the disk to reinstall windows can I download it from somewhere?
