new.net doesn't remove spyware, it IS spyware. Download and run AdAware and Spybot Search and Destroy.

do you want to uninstall or just stop it from being loaded at startup?

Depending on service pack you can left click start then left click run type in "msconfig" and goto the startup tab and uncheck it from there then restart otherwise to uninstall simply goto control panel and then double left click add/remove programs find the program in question and click on change/remove

I want to uninstall this program or either uncheck it so it's not looking for a new.net.dot file...I have a rundll error: I don't have msconfig :-?; not getting modem signal into socket either.

You have a lot of problems, still.

Didn't I suggest you format and reinstall about a month ago?

This rundll error problem just began a week ago; I have three computers and on the system I was having problems with a month ago, I did a new install...it now is fine.  I cannot get online with the new system to download anything though at this point because of the spyware and didn't have any problems until my internet service provider (adelphia but has just sold to comcast..no wonder) suggested I download a spyware removal program to speed up my computer and that was not the problem to begin with..they changed my service.  I can only download on this system (win 98) on floppy and download to other system that I'm now having problems with.

Download Autoruns instead. Just run it and UNcheck any entry you find for NewDotNet, or better yet highlight any entries, right-click and delete them. You can go to Options and check "Hide Microsoft Entries" then hit F5 to refresh the list to make finding it easier if you want.

I now have deleted new.dot spyware and no longer get an error message when booting up;but still can't get online. When I run ipconfig /renew, I get an error message: Error occurred when renewing adapter lac; operation attempted on something that is not a socket.  My network card is not reading the modem for some reason and I can't get the correct IP address. I have installed and reinstalled the network card and called the mfg: they say it is working fine but my ISP says it's not.  So I'm still at a loss :'(

Sounds like a botched NewDotNet removal.  :-/

        Download this Winsock fix.
Put it on a floppy or something, walk it over to the machine in question and run it.
Did you ever run this Winsock fix?

To JPH:  You're great, it worked!!!!!!!!!:o   ;D I'm back up and running again and most definitely learned a lot through this process.  The only thing my ISP could tell me was to reformat my hard drive and reinstall windows!  So I took off a week from work and spent 7-10 hours a day working on this system because I KNEW there was something that could be done to repair what had happened with this spyware.  Thanks so much! :) ;)

It was a great learning experience, no doubt, but considering all the hours you spent vs. 2-3 hours tops to reload Windows and all the updates and your software....

Oh well, to each his own.  ;)

you spent 40+ hrs to fix your comp? you could have taken it to a shop and had them do a clean install and recover any files you afraid of losing for less than 50 bucks...  But im glad to see you got it...
