How do I access my computer remotely.
« on: October 30, 2006, 10:16:06 AM »
My hombase computer is a desk top, connected to cable (LAN) access.  How can I access it when I am on the road with my laptop and at a wifi  hotspot?  I have read as much as I can get on the net.  I know my computer IP add.  but I have had no luck so far.    Any help would be  much appreciated.  tks  Jim

UltraVNC is IMO the best of the freeware client/server VNC packages.  Microsoft remote desktop is pretty good too, much as it galls me to admit it.
Only able to visit the forums sporadically, sorry.

as mentionded before logmein and also PCanywhere

but I think PCanywhere cost $ ... may be worth it to you... I've never used either... I like winVNC but I'm not sure how to use it over the internet or if you can...

not a lot out there other than the listed... try to google "remote desktop over internet"

You can use RealVNC or tightVNC, both are free. Install the VNC server on your home machine and the VNC client, also called VNCViwer on your laptop.
Takes some configuration but it's not difficult. you will need to know your home IP address.
