Drive only recognized in certain areas
« on: November 24, 2006, 04:16:36 PM »
I installed a new Maxtor 200Gb 6L200P0 on my machine today. It's a P4 2.8 GHz, 1Gb RAM, WIN-XP Pro machine.  The new HD is in addition to the 200Gb already in there.  It showed up fine on the detection screen before windows loads after installation.  Once windows loaded, it showed up in my Device Manager under the original drive.  I checked the model numbers on the drives to ensure it was showing the 2 separate drives.  However, the drive does NOT show in My Computer.  The original drive is there, as are the CD-ROM and floppy drives.  However, this one is not there.  I checked my setting and I don't have any drives that are hidden.  Anyone ever run into this?  Anyone have any ideas?  Many thanks!

James

How are the drives jumpered? If incorrectly jumpered this can happen. Is the new drive seen CORRECTLY in the BIOS/set up screen?

If you ask what a jumper is you have solved the mystery.
