The right ram but wrong speed
« on: November 04, 2006, 12:29:01 PM »
Hi all. I bought some new ram and had a technician install it. He had a bit of trouble getting the PC to recognise it but did eventually get it right. Apparently the new ram is the right kind but not the right speed.
Since then we've had nothing but trouble with programmes closing suddenly and all kinds of error reports.
Have I got the wrong ram or could it be something else going wrong?
Any help would be appreciated please.

I have a Hyundai 2600
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
I had 256 ram and installed another 256
NVIDIA gEforce2 MX/MX400
40 gig hard drive
I don't about any other specs

Well it's obviously not the right RAM...

    Try this http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/

I ran a scan at crucial.com before buying the ram.
The ram they stated that I already had was wrong and the one they recommended for my system has never been heard of in NewZealand
Is there any way to make them compatible or shall I just take it out and try and get the right one?

    Right RAM=no problems

    Wrong RAM=your current position.

It would have helped if you had posted more info as well, but you got perfect advice based on what you posted. It was vague at best.

But since you're gone, good luck.

Try running it with only the stick of RAM you got from Crucial, to rule out the possibility that your other stick is damaged.
