Hidden/Protected folder and files
« on: November 05, 2006, 12:55:31 PM »
My motherboard and CPU were fryed in a storm.  When I installed new hardware, Windows XP installed again over my old version.  My old user name was password protected and a folder was hidden.  I know the folder still exsists because I can see it, but I cannot access it. (access Denied).  I thought I could uninstall windows (current version) and Repair the old version,  But I cannot uninstall.   Is there a way I can boot up in the old version of windows XP to retrieve the folder and files or is there a way to access it another way? :-X

You need to take ownership of the folder.

The next step will be to backup all important data, reformat the drive and reinstall Windows the correct way.  ;)
