Retrieving Files from a laptop H/drive? Help?
« on: November 07, 2006, 09:11:29 AM »
I had a previous laptop in for repair that did not materialise and therefore got my original hard drive back complete with the XP operating system on with files etc intact. I have purchased a 'caddy' and have connected the old H/D to my current laptop via a USB 2 cable and it shows as a G drive and the files can be seen. In 'my documents' are photo's of my holiday this year that I want to get off of it. As the old h/d contains the XP system on (password protected) I cannot get access to the my documents file.

My question is how do I do this as I cannot boot up from this external drive can I??

You don't need to be that extreme. You just need to take ownership of the appropriate folders.
