Search function no longer works

Hello ~

I have a Compaq Presario running Windows Me.   When I try to search my computer using Start/Search/For Files or Folders, nothing happens.  I can open the search window but when I type in a phrase then click 'Search Now' there is no effort whatsoever to perform a search.   I've used this Search function without problems for over 5 years on this computer so this is a recent occurance.

I've tried to find an answer online but have had no luck.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.
