gysmoman ..... I assume you did this on-line ...is that correct ?
And you did your renewal thru the Symantec site .....is that correct ?
And they took your money ...... is that correct ?
Then it would be in order for you to phone them and have one of their techs assist you in sorting out the issue ........

Re AVG , yes you can certainly install the free version ...... the new one is version 7.5

If you don't know the answer, it isn't a dumb question.

If you paid $60 you should see if they offer a refund or just use it. Personally I hate throwing money away.  :o

I don't use Norton anymore and don't recommend it, but a lot of people use it and are satisfied, and this person has money invested in it.  ;)

Norton Internet Security, with anti-virus, came on my wife's new computer. But I wanted some features of Norton System Works, so I bought it and tried to install it.  I got the error message that I must uninstall the previous anti-virus, so I can install NSW.  But Norton Internet Security is inseparable - I couldn't uninstall anti-virus by itself - I had to uninstall the whole program.

VERY POOR PRODUCT MARKETING.  EVEN POORER SUPPORT.

Because of that POOR experience, ditched all of Norton on my computer and went to McAfee.  I'm not for sure that they are any better.

Isn't there a decent anti-virus/spam killer/defrag utilitlty vendor out there somewhere?

The Windows defrag is really all you need also.

Or Diskeeper Lite which is still free...

But get everything on the list GX1_Man suggests and your machine and you will be much happier.
