Norton Antivirus, My Mortal Enemy
« on: November 13, 2006, 10:35:16 AM »
Well, Norton Antivirus Is the one Antivirus I despise. It takes up to much space, digs itself deep into the harddrive so its a pain in the @55 to get rid of. Recently, I wanted to be able to share files and printers between the computers. With help from the forum it worked great accept for one thing. One computer running Norton wouldnt seem to work with it, Turn off norton and it works. I play xbox online using a program called XBC. Suddendly, it didnt work so I turned off Norton and it worked. Also, When we first set up our wireless network, we got the families laptop working great with wireless. Installed Norton, messed up the network and Couldn't get it back on the WAN. And two last things I have a problem with, One, The computer with Norton Is BEYOND slow, the computer im using now Runs faster and the other one has 512mb ram and a P4. And Secondly It still says I need to re-new it even though I already did.

So, Basically what im saying is: Don't purchase Norton, If you have it, Get rid of it.

What does everyone mean when they say Run The Kill? Is it a magical way to dispose of Norton, or a random figure of speech?

Is the Computer you're having problems with, the one with Norton? If it is you have to turn off Norton Personal Firewall as well not just Disabling it. But you're better off uninstalling it. Do you have the newest version?

DLoad and run the tool below...

        Norton Removal Tool

        1) Use Add Remove Programs first and un-install Norton...
        2) From Windows Explorer search for any folders named Norton and Symantec and delete them...
3)DLoad and install ERUNT and have it make a backup of your registry...
        4) Open regedit and type Norton in the search bar. Delete all entries it finds. F3 takes you to the next i      instance of Norton. Continue til you have reached the end of the registry...
5)Repeat the above process using Symantec instead in the search field. Delete any Symantec keys it finds...
6)Now run the Norton Removal tool you DLoaded...
        7)Empty the recycle bin...
8)Go to My Computer and right clik the C: drive and select Properties and run disk cleanup...
        9)Re-boot and run disk defrag....

        There you're done !

See how easy Symantec makes it for you to dump their product ? ?
