i recently bought a maxtor 200gb hard drive, i've noticed it get REALLY hot, i havent actually messared it, but by touch it seems way to hot.  i haven't notcied any other problems, expect it also heats up the inside of my case alot and also the self where the hd is mounted get extremely hot too.  the other hd in my system, doesn' t have this problem.  is this normal/okay, or what can be done to cool it down. thanks!

There are special HDD coolers that can installed one of the bays. I suggest you look into these. http://www.coolermaster.com/ may be a good place to get started.

right now it is 51 C, i've felt it hotter before, but i also bought another fan which seems to help a bit

You may need to create a better airflow inside your PC.

Check to see if any expansion cards or cables may be blocking the airflow and if you have a proper fan placement.

is it knocked off ;D....some hard drive ...i hate maxtor hard drives my opinion its hot due to running under load how have you partitioning it? and second is western digital what a racket that makes.. i would  go for seagate anyday ...wow...<baracuda>oops i forgot where is my memory hard drive card...watch this space 8)

the airflow is pretty good, the processer fan gets in the way abit, as do the ide cable, but i've moved them around.  it is a 200gb hd, 150 is ntfs for windows, and 50 is for linux, curretnly its at 31 C, but the computer has only been on for  20 minutes,

Are you experiencing performance issues? If not, I wouldn't think too much of it. If you are curious, you should contact the manufacturer and ask them what the maximum temperature for your HDD is and what kind of cooling is avaible.

no, it seems to be performing fine, i was just curiorus, becuase it got so hot, but if it stays at 51, i guess thats not too bad

Yes it is. Install a HD cooler. Your HD runs hotter than my CPU, and CPU should be the hottest thing in the system.
