W O W!!! That PC has got to  cost at LEAST $10000! Isn't there a 6.2GHz dual-core 64-bit athlon 64FX (FX-62)? I don't see why it can't be an AMD. Besides, who needs THAT much CPU power?
    System Specs:
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+
    1024MB DDR400
    GeForce 7600GS
    160GB SATA II
    500-watt PSU

It's a constant back and forth and I don't think one is necessarily inferior because it is behind in performance for this slice of time. AMD will bring out quad cores before Intel but will that make Intel inferior?

Intel's quad core is out already, although you coud argue it's not a "true" quad core, just 2 Core 2 Duos stuck together
AMD will have the first real quad core
The back and forth of superiority is the same with video cards, at the minute nVidia is on top with the 8800GTX, but then ATi (or DAAMIT as it's now called) will take back the top spot with its next release, then nVidia will beat it...ad infinitum

      @linuxlover - The FX-62 runs at 2.8GHz, it is essentially 2 FX-57s
It is still a powerful chip, but it has nothing on the Core 2 Duo
AMD's model numbers don't relate to the actual chip speed, see here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megahertz_myth

At the minute, AMD can't compete with the Core 2 Duo processors
      http://tomshardware.co.uk/2006/07/14/core2_duo_knocks_out_athlon_64_uk/
I wouldn't say it's inferior, just momentarily behind, AMD will more than likely "knock out" the Core 2 with it's next-gen chips

I understand. But since most visitors here aren't going out tomorrow and buying the newest CPU's on the market i think it's a generalisation that doesn't neccessarily apply overall...

I get you, I'm not saying anything's better or worse, just that Intel have the lead in performance temporarily
AMD are a lot more competitive on price at the minute, most of their processors have been made cheaper after the introduction of Core 2 Duo
      I'm an AMD/ATi fanboy anyway...lol

It's kinda like saying Chevy is inferior.

Then you have hordes of Chevy people saying Ford is inferior...

      Well you get the picture.

"Sound card - meant to put it earlier, I'm getting the X-Fi Fatal1ty "

        X-Fi Fatal1ty hah.
for the best sound performance, i recomend u get a creative gigawork  G500.   it's a 5.1 spk, THX, best if u have X-Fi

the system u going build, is what i dream for.
good luck and enjoy it. ;D

Thanks for the recommendation, I was thinking about the gigaworks speakers, they look pretty good and I've seen good reviews
As for the "enjoy it"...I won't because it's not for me, but my friend will...lol
        Thanks again

Just thought I'd let you know how it went.
He finally got this PC and built it.
This is what he listed it as.
        Intel core 2 duo E6400
        2gb DDR2 ram
        ATi Radeon X1950 XT 256mb
        320gb Hard drive
        18xDVD+/-RW DVD Writer
        Intel P965 + ICH PCI-E Motherboard
Not sure of exact model numbers or if he left anything out.
Thanks for all the help everyone.

CrossFire motherboard would have made this build perfect. Nonetheless its amazing; always makes me happy to see a perfect/near perfect price/performance build.
