Don't you think a HijackThis! log would be called for in this instance?
If it were, do you have any references such as ASAP membership that would prove your ability to interpret such data?

whats nonsense of memberships to interpret a hjt log??? never heard of such a thing and when did i state that i do the interpreting?? learn from the experts that interpret them..

Your user title for instance is described as "Expert". Someone who is completely inexperienced and seeking help here will see that and take it for what it says.
Apparently, you are not familiar with how forum rankings such as "Expert" work.  They are simply based on number of posts.  It's the way all forums work, unless they use no rankings.  Keep in mind that no one gets paid for offering advice here.

He knows how the rankings work, he seems to be challenging others' ability to solve problems mostly.

          riprip,

In reviewing the web page you linked to I see that:

          General Requirements for ASAP Membership
Applicants must own or operate an Internet security focused site or service, or be an active supporter and/or staff member at such a site or service in order to be considered for membership.

Which is your site that you operate or contribute to?

I am an expert as evidenced by my full membership of ASAP
          So YOU say.

You are quick to criticise and jump to conclusions about the members here, and yet somehow expect that we should presuppose your credibility merely on the basis of your own say so (despite your low post count).  If you have a serious criticism, you should address this to the moderators/admin rather than haranguing people in the public forum.  This is not the place for your one-man crusade.

I see your point of view re the ranking incidentally, but do not think your approach will appeal to others even if they happen to be like-minded.

Hmm... you remind me of a previous poster...

          And that's supposed to mean?
It's supposed to mean you remind me of a previous poster.  He went by the handle "Backdated".

This is a free forum.  The advice here is of varying quality.  That's a fact of life isn't it.  Some people are more knowledgeable than others.  Some will rush to help when they are ill-equipped to do so.  If you are concerned that someone is being led astray, why not gain credibility by posting better advice, rather than casting aspersions?  If you really feel a thread needs policing, that's what the mods are here for (and the mods I think allow some of the longer established posters to do some policing too).

Sarcasm and disrespect from a newbie is never going to go down well.  You've been around forums long enough to know that.  Once you've earned your stripes, your "constructive criticism" may be taken a little more seriously, because I'm sure that In Real Life, you're a nice guy that wants to help people.  But you haven't been here long enough for us to learn that about you, we can't take it on trust, and frankly if you continue in this vein you are just going to get people's backs up.

Now, lets return to the topic and save the off-topic chatter for another more appropriate thread.

Let's go ahead and lose this guy all his data is it? At this stage, if safe mode is accessible, there is no need to use a recovery system.

For the sake of asking, as in, to learn something new.

What options are left when the "safe mode" screen is blank and black with only the "safe mode" icons in the corners of the screen as this person had stated?

          Quote
cali77 wrote,  I tried to do a scan in safe mode but when I get to safe mode I only get the black screen with the four safe mode marks on the corners no taskbar or icons.

          Thanks,

          I guess riprip is gone.

What options are left, other than a format and reloading Windows in a situation like this?

Am I way off on thinking this would be pretty much the only answer?
