Switch to Outlet Power

I have Microsoft ME on a Dell Latitude Laptop.

The mouse only works well for a few minutes after turning the machine on.  I have tried several mice with no improvement.  After that it often gets stuck and only responds to my movements after 20-30 seconds or more.  Also when I type the text does not immediately appear on screen.

On Sunday a window suddenly popped up that said something like, power low - recharge battery or switch to outlet power.

I have the machine plugged in, so I assumed it was already on outlet power.  How do I get it to switch to outlet power?  Maybe that will improve mouse performance.

I think you need to scan for viruses! Also, when it's plugged in it's on AC power unless something's wrong with the adapter. Is there an LED on the case somewhere that indicates whether the computer is plugged in or not? I know mine has one.

Open your anti virus program ........ and look for scan system ....... click on that and let it run .

BTW , which anti-virus program are you using ?

I don't think I have an antivirus program.

But I just bought this refurbished on ebay.  The seller only wrote back to inquiries for the first few days, though.  You can view a full description here:

Jeez! One of the first things i installed when i got my laptop was an antivirus! go here and download AVG Anti-virus Free Edition http://free.grisoft.com and run a scan.

There is no such thing as a Pentium II mobile 650. The CPi models all had Pentium II processores, which did not go above 400 Mhz - ever.

If you have a mouse you will need to make sure the drivers are loaded correctly for proper function and that it is designed to work with your version of Windows.

Did you load ME on there or did it come that way?

That's an interesting sales pitch "This laptop features an Intel Pentium II Mobile 650MHz Processor and is extremely fast with it's 128MB RAM combination and a 12.1 Gb Hard Drive which will be able to operate all your games and applications."
Kind of misleading? Making it sound like 12.1GB is huge...

Also, judging by the pictures of it on eBay it had ME installed on it already.

EDIT: Did some research and it came with Windows 95 on it originally; also the eBay page said Windows ME was preinstalled.

may i ask just just how much you paid for this "refurbished" laptop?

i have a 37 and a 74 gig hard drive in my pc.. and i am still running out of space  :-/ ... i have a 320 gigabyte hard drive that i am going to use on my pentium four when i get RAM and a video card for it... oh, BTW, i have a 450mhz pentium two.. or 425... or 400 somthing... i cant remember, i do remember it has 512k cache... which (insert analogy here) AMD athlon xp 1.1ghz (256k cache) over clocked to 1.5ghz. ironically, that is a 400mhz over clock... odd coencidence?
