WinXP issue with scrolling

This is probably a simple problem, I just can't find the answer. When I pull a web page up or just any page, when I'm wanting to scroll down using the arrow down key, it flips pages??? It doesn't scroll down line by line, its like paging down. How do I fix this???
Its hard to explain, I've went into Internet options and checked the smooth scrolling but that isn't it.

This problem is on a Dell Inspiron 8200 notebook, WinXP Home, 512 Ram, Geforce 440 video, nothing special.
It started last week, when while surfing on the internet the computer froze. I got a black screen that said something like.. If this computer has had this error all of a sudden just reboot.
It wasn't a blue screen, just a black screen with alot of code.
When I rebooted the computer it started up like normal, Dell Logo screen, WinXP screen, but afterwards only gave me a mouse cursor and blank black screen.
I rebooted with the WinXP Home CD, went into the Recovery mode, ran a FixMBR and everything worked fine afterwards except the scrolling of the pages.

Check the browser settings...they may have gotten wonked.

You could also try re-installing your touchpad drivers.

I reset my browser setting to the default setting. This didn't help.
If I open a page and press the down arrow key, say 5 times, the page will scroll down (flip) 5 times.
If I was to hold down the "down arrow" for a period of time, it would scroll to the bottom of the page and keep flipping until it had satisfied how long I held down the arrow...strange.

Did you try reinstalling the drivers as patio mentioned?

Ok, I went through the drivers and installed all that I thought would fix it.
The Scrolling/page flipping problem has went away after flashing the bios....BUT, now after boot up when the WinXP splash screen disappears, my screen size shows its at  1024 x 728 but is on 5 inches by 5 inches.
If I go into properties and tell it to change to 800x600 it finally fills the screen. Then I can go back to 1024 x 728 and the screen stays filled.
If I power down the laptop, the screen goes back to a 5 inch by 5 inch small screen size and I have to go back through the properties settings again. Also, when I click on the hyperlinks in an e-mail it doesn't go to Internet Explorer...wow, I get rid of one problem and have two.You go me Leroy.

What happened to get you to this point ? ?

I see a data backup and a complete re-install of XP in your future...

I'm going to re-install the video driver, if this doesn't fix my problem I believe the next step is the WinXP enema.
I was hoping to stay away from having to do this. I despise having to reload all of my programs from scratch. A clean install is probably the best thing for me to do.

You are a prime candiate for Acronis True Image so you never have to do this again. Read about it here:

Thanks GX1_man, I may check out the trueimage, sure beats installing everything.
I appreciate everyones help in trying to solve my notebook problems.
Eventually, I'll get it working the way it should.
